- otherwise, I'm back on the usual medical-model stuff, fifty of these just cranked out and another fifty to start almost right after:
meanwhile, some extremely last-minute 'hot coals' requested on a thursday afternoon for a friday finish, luckily I had some dense foam I just sort of picked at a bit, painted bright orange and then drybrushed in black and a bit of grey, kinda works ok, the bright lighting kinda kills 'em though tbh:
random woody-whatnots that required some serious lugging-about, while wishing our designers would develop an understanding of how heavy things can be; also, got roped into helping figure out the build of the massive 3D printer that only just fits into the room it's gonna live in:
- meanwhile, a bit of catchup on the usual juggling-of-stuff at the work lark; that map-thing, coming along:
- it's a theme with squeal-appeal, to be sure :) Meanwhile, mouse-miniature by @fenrisgames.com, painted by @voiceofkosh.bsky.social:
- anyway - blood pressure might've actually been lower than I was expecting, proba-possibly due to having a nice sit in the break room for twenty minutes or so while waiting my turn, and having a look at the outdoors and trees and stuff that I generally don't see more or less all day long...
not in any of the pictures here, also some big (6- and 8-foot on a side kinda size) mdf-built frames for... something, though somebody else is dealing with the whatever-else of them, as I'm, well, busy. Meanwhile, with may 4th done, this has come back for scrapping and salvage:
also *also* being fit into the scheme of things, sorting out some modelboard/chemiwood topographicals for a thing I did a test-piece for about a year or more ago that of course came up to be getting got on with within the same month:
*also* also, tinkering bits for a window-display ferris wheel, mainly re-turning a bit of bar several times in the lathe 'cos folks kept twerping about with various bearings to get the thing to run smoothly:
...finally got asked to sort out the stickers meself with just over a day left before deadline, took me a whole 3 hrs to do the stickers and the rest of the morning to stick the lids to the units; fairly sure the 3 print guys could've dealt with the stickers-bit a lot quicker, a *week ago*, but eh.
meanwhile/also building a bunch of display-and-play units for some 'Kinetic Sand' - their finish delayed by 10 days while waiting for the print guys to put the stickers onto the lids, these here being of a bunch of 20 lurking in that limbo:
bah, stupid busy-ness at work causing the usual carnage to getting any socials-ising done, hohum - nothing 'trifficly interesting, just lots of it - not least being back on the medical-model malarkey again, amongst much else...
this film is the reason I see this image in my head whenever anybody types 'lol'
- right, a last coupla bits to put a knot in the end of this thread and call it done - been some Willy-Wonka-lookin' stuff getting polished off this week, as well as all else besides...
Anyway here's 2 parts of the 4 halves of the 2 models to bring an end this torturously long thread, sorry for that. I'm gonna clear off again for a bit having inflicted that on you all, partly from a need to eat, but also cos laptopping for two hours plus has seized me back up and I need to move.
- got into some interesting heat-gun experiments getting various things into position, slightly therapeutic, and some satisfying shapes going on:
using cardboard cutouts to plan out the two sides of the display and where things are gonna sit, before committing to drilling into things and hoping everything stays put:
next up, sticking sticks in stuff, mainly for mounting but also for a loada lasers; also, the background at last, a rather simpler affair than all that rock-building lark:
- needed a few quick planets, so - more foam, tape, and filler, and there we have Tatooine and a gaggle of Yavins:
I was gonna put up a coupla minute-ish long turntable-turnarounds for last comparisons but apparently they're too big to load, so hohum. Otherwise though, stuck all that lot under the dome and screwed it down so it could go in the back of a van and get sent back whence it came, and all that:
...but anyway, yeah - Hoth version 1 versus Hoth version 2; the Millenium Falcon flew 'round the other side of the model, the old snow got renewed and more snow was stuffed into scene, and a couple of very quick-crap 'explosions' were bodged in via wire and hot glue:
- because there wasn't time to do all that; on paper there was about a month to get this (+ the other model!) done, but the reality was about 12 days as it was very much one of several side-quests to the main mucking-about manufacturing of stuff I was up to, namely building a buncha other stuff:
slightly less to undertake on the Hoth side of things, but here goes; the main ask was to have more snow in the scene, so I sorted out building in a bit more slope to tame the verticals; made it nice and easy for myself by building around and between the existing vehicles without removing them...
I s'pose I better bung all the toys on too - gotta fit 'em all in and around some more @fenrisgames.com bits and pieces meanwhile, as well as keeping within the restrictions of the dome it's all displayed under:
time to start plonking some plap in place, I reckon - painting up some pod-homes and setting 'em on site - the doors are doctored castings from @fenrisgames.com, likewise with the laser-cut ladders; there are otherwise a couple of little bits of #lego sneakily snuck in:
right then, so - (egad, a *month* since I last looked in?!) - gettin' some primin' and paintin' going on; a base of barely-lightened yellow ochre followed up by a coupla rounds of wash-and-highlight:
- gonna leave it there for now I think and get me dinner, but not before sneaking in a Somesortosaurus as a nod to Episode IV, or whatevs.
brushed on a bit of primer to start unifying things, and then started sculpting things into shape with the filler to hopefully bring it all together in a reasonably natural-looking manner...
