Sorry on Snowden I think he was blinded by belief rather than ignorance. Alternatives existed and had been argued for since the early 1920s (see Treasury View wiki) but he thought them to be wrong morally and economically.

Oh Look OBR bluntly states inflation can be lowered by the state simply lowering the prices, such as energy bills, it controls - contradicting the Treasury line. None of this operates by hiking interest rates, slowing demand or wage restraint. Where are the sado-monetarists now?
