Total Solar eclipse of 12th August 2026 as seen from near Osorno, 50 km west of Burgos, Spain. This was a low eclipse, so the corona looked yellowish during the totality of 1 minute 45 seconds.

Now I have a minor planet. It was discovered by Ovidiu Vaduvescu using images by Euronear Project taken at Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma, Spain. This is a 2.2-km wide asteroid, revolving around the Sun every 5.62 years, at an average distance of 470 million km.🗿🙂 www.wgsbn-iau.org/files/Bullet...

Tunç Tezel (b. 1977) is a Turkish civil engineer, eclipse chaser, astrophotographer, and member of the Turkish Astronomy Society. Well-known for pictures of skyscapes and long-term motions of planets including retrograde motions and analemmas, he is also the
creator of Tutulemma, an analemma photograph that includes a solar eclipse.

APOD 82 Retrograde Neptune & Saturn 2025-6 apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap260506.html vimeo.com/1177973763 I photographed Neptune and Saturn every 6 to 11 days between 9th May 2025 and 25th February 2026 while both planets traced their retrograde loops.

Neptune and Saturn trace their retrograde loops between 9th May 2025 and 25th February 2026. Saturn looks like a yellowish 1st magnitude star, tracing a loop of 7 degrees long, beginning in Pisces, then crossing to Aquarius at lower right just before October, and then making back to Pisces. Neptune's retrograde loop is more compact, visible as a series of 8th magnitude aqua-green dots spanning 3 degrees in Pisces.

The separation between Saturn and Neptune changes along the course of the year, as the planets trace different retrograde loops according to their own orbital velocities around the Sun, and also their distance. This has been the closest Saturn and Neptune have been in the sky since their last conjunction in 1989.

As seen from Artemis 2, the Moon with an earthshine crescent eclipses the Sun, and four planets are visible to the lower right of the Lunar disk. These are Saturn, faint Neptune (which needs a pointer), Mars and Mercury

The appearance of Comet Hyakutake in 1996 had ended a long drought of great comets. But the weather in March 1996 was not very favourable. I was able to see Hyakutake at its closest for 10 minutes only. When I took this single picture 30 years ago today, clouds were coming back already.

Comet Hyakutake is visible with its long tail, not far from Alkaid and Mizar, two stars of Big Dipper in Ursa Major. Clouds shining in yellow-orange (because of the light pollution) are about to cover the comet in aqua-green colour.
