Hmmm. I think overall, they're more likely to birth offspring of the father's species. But... Hey, since we're being weird with fantasy/sci-fi nonsense genetics, I'm gonna ramble!

I think to a degree, each otter has control over her body and reproductive systems to the point that, after one or two litters, she can fully control whether she DOES get knocked up, what kind of litter, and even the speed at which it develops (wanna give birth in two weeks? Sure! Need to hold on for several years? Also possible! Tbh, I've been looking at some art from a furry artist called Folvondusque, who does some GREAT button-pushing pregnancy stuff lol).

But, at its base, a pheromonal/instinctual element kicks in. If the otter is mainly surrounded by others of her species, she's WAY more likely to have a litter of otter-thing eggs. If she's out in the world among other species, she'll be WAY more likely to give live-birth to offspring of the father's species. Again, the more often they breed the more they get a handle of 'controlling' everything going on, but as most of these otter-things tend to get knocked up for the first few times at home, their first few birthings will be eggs. Though at times they will live-birth a fellow otter, usually when they get more experience and biological control.

As for a firm split, I'd guess its about 20% Otter Eggs, 70% Father's species live birth, 10% Otter live birth."

Note that I'm taking this as something of a design challenge heh. Would be nice if I could work up some art but that's a bit out of my wheelhouse... still!

I'd probably lean in something of a sci-fi and/or fantasy angle; semi-anthro otter base (think Zaush's otters), but their coats range more in the blue-green-gray color area. I'm a sucker for some Eastern dragon-style antennae and horns, ngl. And, the ever-important junk... I'm almost thinking a single cloaca under their tail, stretchy and soft. And cuz I'm a pervert, rows of nipples down their fronts; not full BREASTS, but definitely distinct and sensitive :3c Maybe they'd also have some kind of other aquatic features on their backs...? Something like sea anemone tendrils, or even sea urchin spines/crab shell. I think it'd vary by familial/heritage."

Text reads: "Behavior wise, I'm definitely leaning towards something of a free-use species. They like playing with each other, learning and passing the time, but they LOVE entertaining guests of other species, especially bigger males. They typically flock together in little 'harem' groups, but solitary individuals aren't unusual; they usually just end up falling into mixed-species groups that they can 'play' with. Typically intelligent and social, they make good... engineers/magic researchers, depending on what genre I'd stick them in haha. Regardless, they're smart and flirty, and I'd almost say they have a slight telepathic bond with one another, sharing pleasure, information, etc. when nearby. Which, maybe they can also use on other species, inducing a bit of sexual mania as a defense (or game ;3 ).

They don't usually wear much in the way of clothes; more decoration, things to accentuate their hole, antennae, nipples, paws, tails... Even around more clothing-non-option species, they probably don't wear much in the way of pants or covering skirts. Unless someone's into that; I think as a result of their slight telepathy and sexual openness, they tend to 'sense' what others around them are into, and LOVE playing into it. Like a demure little otter-thing shyly nuzzling your bulge? Like a confident flock pinning you down and having their way with you? Like a little bondage and rough fun? They'll know, and they'll give it to ya."
