Saw a replica of this lovely gold and white enamel swan jewel today in Dunstable. It’s about 3cm tall (original is in the British Museum) Love the knobbly feathers.
Local Robin became very upset that I was listening to a recording of a Cetti’s warbler in the garden. He’s up in the birch tree now being cross.
Enjoying this excellent book that I picked up from Oxfam. Finding that Jim Ghedi’s Wasteland makes a very fine soundtrack to go with it.
Can anyone help identify this butterfly from my terrible photos? In Bedfordshire near hedgerow and river. It was fast, flew erratically, I thought it was bigger than a Holly blue, silver outer wings with no brown dots on the edges and bright blue inner wings. I
Not sure why this is her chosen cool spot but if it works for her who am I to question it.
I grumble to myself about my neighbour’s giant pine tree sometimes but honestly, it’s nearly 10.00am and still cool and shady. It also has goldcrest inhabitants. Confession, the smaller birch is on my side 🤭

It was hard to see them, think I’ll take binoculars next time. The carvers put so much detail into the wings and faces considering where they were going to be positioned. The carvings on the rood screen were easier to see - and of a similar vintage
Always look up. The rafters were a long way up and quite shaded but managed a couple of wobbly pictures of these angelic watchers who have been watching since they were carved in the 15th century. All Saints, Wing.
This was a surprise to come across today, a Richard Long piece at Ascot House (Wing). Hard to show it properly but imagine a large circle in the grass filled with carefully arranged big chunks of slate that reflect the light and create different shadows throughout the day.
Oh definitely, sorry, I just have to share them 😊 every so often the studio hold a silent auction online, it is a good way of securing one.

Ah yes, I can also recommend one of these UV umbrellas if you don’t mind looking silly! They’re popular in Japan and I’ve had mine for about 4 years - very effective
First thing this morning the willow fluff on the Grand Union looked like snow. Met lots of dogs having a walk in the cool of the day and a beautiful fluffy and friendly cat in the woods. Rest of the day I have hardly moved from the house.
Very enjoyable day at the @absoluteunits.bsky.social in Reading. Found so many connections. A cart from Codicote mill, The Radical Rural trail and books, a gallery of Ladybird books and art and many many lace bobbins that I would love to have looked through by hand! Oh and Old Crockern.
