If you like theatre and want a fun evening out, go and see 'Oh, Mary!' at the Trafalgar Studios. It is a great piece of entertainment and you leave with a big smile on your face. Plus it's straight through, 80 minutes, job done, so not a late train home either. Perfect.

Who is the economist that gave a voice
To Latin America, so they could have a choice?

That my friend is Raul Prebisch
And in Argentina he had a wish
To see growth happen to make folk rich
But he noticed though an economical glitch
Developed countries were gaining from trade
But developing countries still needed aid.
Comparative advantage had sold a dream
That all countries were one big team
But via the sectors that production occurred
The gains of trade were being transferred.
It was all there in his hypothesis,
And Singer agreed with much of this.
It was structuralism that made it unfair
So a new Economics started there,
To end this era of unequal exchange
Periphery nations had to extend their range.
The Cepalistas came up with a plan
To become less reliant on American man.
More manufacturing, more local ties
To depend on agriculture was very unwise.
But ‘centre’ economists stuck to their guns
You could call them all Ricardo’s sons
And Prebisch ideas were pushed to the side
But rest assured they never died.

Great article by @danielstorey85.bsky.social - this paragraph highlights why 'competition' doesn't always work in a 'free market' - it's supposed to get cheaper for consumers not more expensive when there are lots of firms involved. Reading a book on degrowth has made us a bit fighty or maybe it's the heat. Here is a letter one of us wrote in the @metro.co.uk standing up for the idea of 15-minute cities! #EconSky

The scare mongering about 15-minute cities is fully captured by J Hall's comments (Metro, Weds). Heaven forbid you can get 'everything you need within a quarter-of-an-hour walk'!!! I want to be sitting in my car, polluting the environment & wasting my time on congested roads. Let me drive miles for a doctor's appoinment or any other amenity that might improve my quality of life. The idea that a 15-minute city means you can't go anywhere & you're trapped is one for conspiracy theorists only.

In twenty eight days, the fat would go
By doing these exercises all in a row.

Belly all lean, not an ounce of fat!
Algorithm had shown me the way

But there’s no point doing any of it,
If you can’t resist a Banana Split.
And sumo squats won’t cut the mustard
If you’ve tucked away some sponge and custard.
You might as well start doing less,
If you’re tempted by the Eton Mess.
Forget about the stomach crunches
If Spotted Dick comes after lunches.
And put away that six-pack dream
If you can’t say no to ice cream.

Twenty eight days will come and go

Belly protrudes in slim fit shirts,
And that will be my just desserts.

Another joke of a fight. How can the WBC agree to this when the guy has had two rounds of boxing? What is the point of a ranking system & working hard to go up it? How does this incentivise boxers? 🤔 Sport continually being destroyed by the money men.
