It was a long day of driving and one minor freak out, but we arrived at the ocean. The skies are clear, the breeze is cool and the surf sounds heavenly.

From FB. This is not great. For reference Ontario is about an hour from Boise, just across the border. I-84 is the major east/west interstate in this area.

The west is on fire, y'all (and this doesn't include the big fires in the northern Minnesota/Boundary waters area).

Yep. Lots of central to eastern Oregon is on fire and it's blowing directly into us. Boise is where the Claremont Fire is located (it's mostly contained and not the source of the smoke). Everything west of there is blowing right into us.

Rather large fire in the foothills northeast of downtown Boise. These are from my office window.

I appreciate all the concerns for my safety but the storm had passed by the time we were heading home, so there was no danger. I just saw the aftermath of it. Like this pile of hail on my front step.

The teams will run up and over the Alaska range and into the interior over the first 2-4 days. Teams must take a 24 mandatory rest at any checkpoint on the trail and most will take them in McGrath or Takotna. Some will push up to Ophir or even Cripple. #mushersk #iditarod54 3/
