This month 30 years ago: ESA’s inaugural Ariane 5 flight V88, also known as Flight 501, was lost on 4 June 1996, when the new rocket was destroyed just 37 seconds after launch. The catastrophic failure was caused by software error in the rocket's guidance system. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariane_...
