Naya Reynolds, 22, was getting ready to graduate from Western Michigan University when she was shot and killed during a road rage incident. Her death sparked her mother, Maya, to begin volunteering with @momsdemandaction.org. We remember Naya by sharing her story this #BereavedParentsMonth.

For Louisiana @studentsdemandaction.org leader Andrew Courville, participating in @everytown.org’s Demand a Seat program helps to prepare young people like him to have a seat at the table on the issue of gun safety.

Over the past decade, the progress the gun safety movement has made is nothing short of extraordinary — I’ve seen it myself. I’ve had so many conversations with people who may not share my political views or even agree with the work of our organization.

Even after three years of being Executive Director of @momsdemandaction.org and @studentsdemandaction.org, I’m still in awe of the resilience and power of our survivors every day.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Karen Menke, one of our fearless Georgia @momsdemandaction.org volunteers. Here she was during a protest in 2024 proudly holding a “Protect Kids Not Guns” sign. She will truly be missed. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and community.

In July 2023, Fon Dockery received a phone call that no parent ever wants to get. His daughter, 8-year-old Jenesis, was shot with an unsecured gun in her babysitter’s house. She died two days later.

In less than a year, ICE has taken the lives of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Joan Sebastian Guerrero, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, among others. As immigrant communities continue to live in fear, we must stand together with our neighbors for the safety of our communities.

I am heartbroken and furious. Joan Sebastian Guerrero was 26 years old — a husband, a father to a young daughter, and, by all accounts, not even the target of the ICE operation that ended his life. His family is now living with unspeakable pain because a federal operation turned deadly, yet again.

I’m horrified by the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by ICE agents yesterday in Houston, Texas. Lorenzo was a beloved father and a business owner who was on his way to work when he was killed. He should still be here.

For BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m honoring my mental health by slowing down and listening to my needs. I hope you can find space to do the same. ❤️

⭐️ Mississippi @momsdemandaction.org volunteers in Clarksdale closed out June with a big cookout and a National Gun Violence Awareness Month proclamation from the city’s mayor.

⭐️ South Carolina @besmartforkids.org volunteers in Aiken had a wonderful time tabling at a local Juneteenth celebration, which led to an invitation to participate in an NAACP youth-led event.

⭐️ Ohio @momsdemandaction.org volunteers in Mueller and Cincinnati had a fun time campaigning with Gun Sense Candidate and future Ohio governor, Amy Acton.

⭐️ California @momsdemandaction.org volunteers came out in full force for a hearing at the state capitol on a bill that requires 3D printer manufacturers to equip printers with firearm-blocking technology.

Today, as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m thinking about the promise of this country — and how far we still have to go to make that promise real for every family.

Parades should be joyous celebrations for our communities, not sites of mass violence. Today, my heart is with all those in Highland Park forever changed by this horrific shooting or mourning a loved one.

Lorena Capera Paz, 45, was shot and killed at her North Carolina workplace by her husband, who had purchased a gun just days before. Lorena’s teen son will now be forced to face a future without the love and care of his mother. etwn.us/4vIbR8s
