Just learned about the Daihatsu Hijet Deck Van and have never has the urge to remain car-free been so waning. 660cc Kei car, 4 seater, automatic. 4wd if needed, and has a truck bed. It’s the perfect automobile in a world where life exists outside of cities as well. I will not discuss further.
That was a fun raceday out yesterday. Incredibly hard, and I’m in bits today, but incredibly fun. 6am start with a wheel dip in Lake Huron, and then 14.5 hours later finishing in Ludington to beat the sunset & dip a wheel in Lake Michigan. 28°C max, and huge gravel roads. Also: Sand is hard.
Back in America for a couple weeks to see family and friends, and take on a fun Gravel Grinder race at the weekend in Michigan. Everything arrived. Yay. AirTags are neat. On I90 headed back to the family home, and it always strikes me how *hostile* the environment is with huge roads and vehicles!
Reading through this morning’s @edinburghminute.com. This headline gave me pause. Edinburgh - cleanest city in Scotland? Maybe I’m jaded a bit from living in Japan, and then living in a well-funded London. This is NOT a high bar. Yikes.
This has been my best addition to BlueSky filtering recently. Also does well for filtering out single-image low effort posters. Bliss. This shall remain an #AISlop free space. #AbominableIntelligence
Generally a big fan of the graffiti wall on Marine Parade in Leith - always new stuff going on, and I feel like the area could use some investment to make it a really special spot. That said, today, I became a huge fan. 😅 One for you, @gundampixel.bsky.social! #gundam
It was an excellent morning with @leithfeederride.bsky.social and @pedalonparliment.org - greatly attended event, and glad I was feeling healthy enough to marshall this morning! Hopefully a sign of returning to health. #PoP26
Well. Guess this means we could use more bike racks on Great Junction Street. 😅 Who says no one is using the new Leith Connections infrastructure? @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike
If this is how you advertise your newly opening business - by littering all over The Shore - we’re going to have a problem. Found all over The Shore to the OT, many had fallen off as the magnets are not strong. How many would’ve ended up in the water? 😡 @sosleith.bsky.social @lhncc.bsky.social
We’re in the “8-days till Dirty Reiver” land, where forecasts start being paid attention to for the event on the 25th. This isnt terrible. 🤞
We had some fun in Greenwich over the weekend. Going to these places with people who have PhDs in the subject matter is even more fun.
Great weekly mail as always @edi.bike !!! Just so you have a data point, I did indeed read it this morning AND clicked through to the web version. 😉 There’s a non-zero chance that any tracking pixels, etc. don’t get loaded because Pi-hole … but the support is there. 😁
I realised I had some pálinka which remained as a gift when my mates visited Edinburgh last! This is for them & and other Hungarians seeing some hope in a long long time. I knew I was saving it for a special occasion! Egészségedre !
You legend. Thanks for the tip! Just been and while they were out of the Gundam Base Clear Wing Zero, picked up some fun easy kits and also got my pin badge! Cheers! 😁
What a day. 21.5 miles hiked along the Fife Coastal Path from Newburgh to Dundee. Beautiful sun, a hefty amount of tailwind, and even some sleet thrown in to keep us on our toes. 😅 Ember bus back to Edinburgh - not waiting for the train. Tomorrow. A rest and a roast dinner. 😁
Today we had our first cloudless morning as the Edinburgh Dawn Patrol left Seafield on the way along the coast towards Portobello. The first Dawn over the Forth was seen of 2026. It was something special to take in. Cheers to Markus Stitz for this amazing photo of myself and two mates on Patrol.
NEW FAVOURITE DUCK SOUND FOUND!!!!!! Have never been this lucky to have them so close before. Absolute treat!!!
Heart rate not above 125 throughout the ride. Quick pull into Æmilia on the Porty high street for a porchetta sandwich & limonata (no need to worry about parking because BIKE!) and that’s continued to just the most lovely ride out along the water. These are healing days for sure.
Right! By the time I got there this afternoon the next frame was already moored and ready to unload Was amazing to see them all the way from the Forth Road Bridge.
9am this morning. Using the new Leith Connections to get from The Shore to Foot of the Walk by bike to commute to a meeting. One couldn’t even get onto the cycleway though, with this van blocking the entrance at the start of Leith Walk. Poor form on all accounts by the business.
Cannot get over the sheer size of the ships coming into the port these days. Those yellow transition pieces? 28m tall, 8.3m diameter, and 600 tonnes. Each. 🤯 Get to Western Harbour & Lighthouse Park over the spring when these ships are in. You will NOT be disappointed.
I wish to give everyone today’s worst parking photo that I’ve seen in a long time. The absolute audacity of this. Even diners at the nearby Granery restaurant just outside shot were laughing in disbelief with me. Hazards on. Driver can be seen kitty-corner about to cross back. Words fail. 🤯
And another for good measure! 😁 Great mini talk today as well! Your Venn diagram is something I’m absolutely borrowing for the future. 😂
I knew there are overwintering chiffchaffs in Edinburgh as we saw them in December. Moments ago here I am, reading comments on Lothian Birdwatch about them while having a coffee and suddenly over my shoulder … A WILD CHIFFCHAFF APPEARED! It used immense joy. It’s SUPER EFFECTIVE!
@edinburghcouncil.bsky.social Your Report Incorrectly Parked Vehicles webform isn’t accepting images currently. You can usually find people parked on the footpath just where the new Dockside development is just on Ocean Drive. Just go in the evenings. Like catching fish in a stocked loch.
A reminder to other cycling orientated folks out there as we start edging closer to Spring: 1. When was the last time you topped up your tubeless sealant? 2. When was the last time you checked your brake pads? Some quick maintenance this afternoon to address both these questions. 😁
