Person on a 🚲 in Edinburgh & beyond!
You’ve got to be joking… Worst Festival show ever… Seriously is this it?! What’s the safe alternative route? Not even a QR code to link to more information. At least the single occupancy car shown feels appropriate! Perhaps CEC could add these signs on approach to Greyfriars Bobby 🙃
Thanks. Interesting but also so bizarre if only the 101 bus service stops at either. Revised positions not showing on Google Maps or Lothians as yet.
Spotted that the Leven St bus stops have been reinstated. Southbound has been moved south though.
💦 Didn’t they foresee the splashing risk due to blocking drainage or is the puddle especially for cycles? The exit markings at Candlemaker Row MUST be realigned as the cycle markings lead directly into kerb & visibility for buses etc exiting is blocked 🙄 A primary cycle route downgrade yet again 🙁
#EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike @robbieainsworth.bsky.social Newbattle Terrace closed between Canaan Lane and Whitehouse Loan for SPEN? roadworks? Still cyclable but signage just for cars saying diversion needed. Much safer exit from Canaan Lane as a benefit for cycles.
#EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike ⚠️ caution ⚠️ needed on North Bridge headed north. So many raised ironworks and no obvious warning signs (to me at least) could be lethal on a bike if not aware. Also amount of tarmac and road width being reinstated is crazy! No cycle provision or widened pavements
@edinburghbug.bsky.social @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social what’s up with the Dalry Road bus lane towards Haymarket. 17:45 today completely full of parked cars?! If this is park of the 7/7/7 trial it’s gonna need some strong enforcement!
FYI @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike @sw20.info @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social Also does anyone know if the lane / track via Lymphoy from Currie to Malleny is cyclable? This would avoid the busy Lanark Rd West.
Wallyford Roundabout over the railway has been made safer for cycling 🙌 A bit of an odd arrangement of actually going around the roundabout given toucans and then being dumped on Haddington Road down to Musselburgh. But it will link up to the long term Active Toun plans. @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk
Was great to see everyone make a powerful collective demo of our intent to make our streets safer for everyone. A few videos to follow.
Some (seemingly ineffective) “cycle hire only” markings have been added to the Greenhill Gardens dock. Progress… but surely appropriate for on road not pavement?! @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike FYI - @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social @edinreporter.bsky.social
An early morning cycle along Jawbone Walk… blooming marvelous! 🌸 Seagulls seem to like it as well
Does anyone know why the lovely beech hedges have been cut down on “West Granton Access Cycleway”?! Can see what they looked like here; maps.app.goo.gl/rGBskoAqT38u... Such a shame 😕… aren’t hedgerows projected? @spokes.org.uk @chasbooth.bsky.social @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social #EdTravCyc
Yep no probs. Start at north side of Duntarvie Castle M9 junction for Winchburgh with loads of shared use paths linking to Parks & Canal etc. Between waypoints 1 & 2 on screenshot the path now goes into the field around the tree line but currently not mapped. Otherwise upgrades to existing route.
Trying out the new/upgraded path from Newton to Winchburgh in @westlothiancouncil.bsky.social Opens up some different routes to/from Hopetoun Estate if out that way. @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk
Lovely ride (with headwind) from Perth to Arbroath today. Many bits of new cycle infrastructure to use. Great quality. Well done @anguscouncil.bsky.social 👏
Thanks Scottish Canals for sorting out some of the roughest roots on the Union Canal towpath at Wester Hailes. Also adding the link at Harrison Park onto Ogilvie Ter. However some very bad sunken sections need sorted too please 🙏
FYI - Water of Leith path is closed (with no signed diversion in advance) at Woodhall for resurfacing the defective newish surface. Assume for this week as wasn’t there on Monday morning? @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social #EdTravCyc @sw20.info any idea when it’s to reopen?
Just reported #ScottishPower contractor for not allowing space for cycles to pass on Whitehouse Loan at the junction with Newbattle Terrace. No diversion signage on Quiet Route & pavement being used by cycles when space could allow for passing on road! 🙄 @spokes.org.uk #EdTravCyc @edi.bike
#EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social Braid Avenue and Braid Estate side roads an ice rink again this morning with gritting seemingly. Walking like a penguin so pray for anyone cycling without studded tyres!
#EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike @livingstreetsedi.bsky.social it’s pretty sketchy on untreated surfaces this morning. Made it into town along bus routes but paths like meadows seemed untreated or washed away due to late rain.
🇫🇷 🧅 Wonderful @bbcarchivebot.bsky.social feature on French Onion sellers in the 1950s plying their wares across Edinburgh by bike. Starts at around 17mins. @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk @frenchinstituteuk.bsky.social youtu.be/0xQYzbJqjcg?...
Wondering if anyone knows why there’s a concrete service chamber? / bath? seemingly dumped at the corner of Bruntsfield Links at Whitehouse Loan / Bruntsfield Crescent? A bit of an odd spot for a planter.
FYI Dalmeny Estate tarmac roads between the shore and NCN1 are closed on Saturdays until 1st Feb 2026 according to signage at the closures. Roads highlighted in yellow. Unsure what is happening every Saturday for 3 months? 🤔 @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike #EdTravCyc
Yep it would useful if Voi & @edinhelp or BS equiv could respond to these concerns. I spotted the app now has photos which show temporary corners for “parking area” however up in Burntsfield they moved the well use dock and still people park at the old one?! 🤷♂️
Update @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk Comiston Rd closure has a 🚧 gap that is passable with care on carriageway (see grey jacket cyclist route) so pleasant compared to Braid Rd. @edinreporter.bsky.social is it not odd the petrol station is also closed for roof works right now? Some coincidence!
Comiston Rd closed for emergency repairs but cycles able to proceed in both directions to closure then walk on pavement. Braid Rd is busy but Quiet Route is OPEN. Beware drivers suddenly pulling into n’bound bus lane to make U turn at Braid Hills Rd jnct. #EdTravCyc @spokes.org.uk @edi.bike
