@juliaelliott.bsky.social I was in the Asheville airport recently and when I saw this sculpture I stopped dead like “what in the great Romie Futch is that?!”
Thinking a lot this morning about a photo I took back in 2013 for no particular reason (oh wait the reason is that I watched the Other Mommy trailer) klophoto.com/index.php?id...
Cold Empty Rooms by Andy Marino (who I have never read but @keithrosson.bsky.social’s review made me want this bad) and last but not least The Thrice-Bound Fool by @buehlmeister.bsky.social I just finally figured I’m going to buy them regardless so why not give a present to Future Me? [2/2]
I have never preordered so many books before. I can’t stop. In no particular order: The Unhaunting by @micaiahjohnson.bsky.social Nightjars by @michaelwehunt.bsky.social The Minimalist by @kaileepedersen.bsky.social Crone by @keithrosson.bsky.social [1/2]
Because of keming I saw this as “Tom Hanks was born today in 1956; R.I.P. Tom died on this day in 2019.”
The Coen Brothers didn’t ask their props department to create a hat that could be blown along without disturbing all the leaves around it creating a surreal dreamlike feeling just so you could tell me that AI is “inevitable.”
Me: You die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time. Ea-nāṣir:
Bear cub on our front porch got a rhododendron blossom stuck on his shoulder and had to go run to mom.
I guess I just have to make sure it's a GOOD friend, not some acquaintance from my horror book club as I had originally envisioned. counterpoint
Thank you for the reminder, I had forgotten to preorder! Got that taken care of now.
While in Italy I was very excited to see they have road signs to warn of upcoming Angine de Poitrine
I’m going to a Toadies show tonight after not really having thought about them since 2008’s No Deliverance. I honestly wondered if the front man Vaden Lewis had turned into some grumpy right-wing Texan and if I was making a mistake. Then I found this interview from April and I feel better.
Today’s wildlife count was three bears and four rabbits. I think the rabbits will have the advantage just based on sheer numbers.
Looks like Malaprop's has one on hand. Instead of trying to fit all this into a single post I'll just screenshot my review from Goodreads (no spoilers obviously).
Finding out my LiveJournal is old enough to rent a car has caused me serious psychic damage.
Just finished The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu by @tom-lin.bsky.social. Absolutely incredible that this is his first novel. Tightly wound, driving, hot, full of blood and mystery and death. I can not wait to see what he writes next.
In the past few days here in Asheville I’ve seen turkeys, rabbits, owls, hawks, bears, and had to evict both a black rat snake and a tiny field mouse from my house. The most wildlife I’d see on the regular in New Orleans was cockroaches and bayou rats. I’ll take this trade.
If you want to turn off the neverending insanity machine for 20 seconds here’s a picture of my boys being sweet.
Well this is a new one. Filling out a form at a doctor’s office and the “what language do you speak?” form has an absolutely fantastic list of options. I have no idea where the website dev or whoever sourced this list but damn. Way to look out for the occasional 4,000 year old Elamite revenant.
today's textures they're about to appear (they're about to appear) today's textures shout it loud and clear TODAY'S TEXTURES!
I walk by this every day, concerned that some innocent kid is going to stick one last piece of gum and complete the sigil, inadvertently summoning Rigleezel, Lord of Chicle, wielder of the Winter Trident.
Last read: Black River Orchard by @chuckwendig.bsky.social Currently reading: The Librarianist by Patrick DeWitt Next read: The Deep Sky by @yumewrites.bsky.social though there's a chance I'll have to pause this to knock out MIsery by @stephenking.bsky.social for my local horror book club.
Jungle pouch, primordial pouch - whatever you call it, Booker has it more than any other cat I know. Now with the new cat tree with the porthole in the top it occasionally just kind of … sags through.
