My immature Great Blue Heron friend... might not be my friend? #BirdWatchingGoesBothWays #birds #birding @everyheron.bsky.social
I saw this precious fledgling Red-whiskered Bulbul emerge from its nesting area this weekend! I saw some rustling in a flowering plant and thought it might be a Lesser Goldfinch, but it was this Bulbul fledgling venturing out into the world!
For #BirdOfTheDay #SummerLovin, an American Robin I saw on Saturday, who found a way to cope with the summer heat. @alan678.bsky.social
A late entry for #BirdOfTheDay #Blue, a California Scrub Jay daring you to judge it for bathing in dewy grass. Tough looks aside, this was adorable to watch. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #ScreenFiller, a California Towhee (juvie?) who walked up to me when I was at full zoom on another bird, so she got the Norma Desmond treatment. @alan678.bsky.social
Happy Friday! Sharing a photo I took last weekend of my Pin-tailed Whydah friend, who was scolding a hummingbird for flying near "his" tree. Hoping to see this guy again this weekend!
For #BirdOfTheDay #Corvidae, a juvie California Scrub Jay calling out to its sibling. The 2 siblings were calling out and following each other from tree to tree. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #RSVP a juvie American Robin who successfully hunted a leaf. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #NewLife, a juvenile Pin-tailed Whydah I saw out foraging with its mom. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay alt them #OpenBeaks, a Common Yellowthroat belting out his song from a reed. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
A late entry for #BirdOfTheDay #AmongTheRipples, a Canada Goose family I saw this spring. I love to see goslings when they are just little yellow puffballs! @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #UpAndDown, a juvie American Robin looking up at some noisy parrots flying overhead. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #rocky, my immature Great Blue Heron friend perched on a rock with a foot tucked in. I think this is a twofer if a closed umbrella shape qualifies for #contortionist. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay alt theme #BirdsILove, my immature Great Blue Heron friend snoozing in the sun, in a flasher pose to keep cool. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #Orange, an American Robin posing in the grass. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For @alan678.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme #cutie, a Hooded Oriole mom and fledgling who I think both fit the theme.
For #BirdOfTheDay #Ebony&Ivory, my Pin-tailedWhydah friend, showing off his incredible breeding plumage, even when foraging on the ground. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #WildMotion, 3 American Robin nestlings lunging with beaks open to beg for food from dad. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #QuietReflection, a Western Bluebird dad taking a moment to himself. @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #RedBeakFeetEyes, a Pin-tailed Whydah with his stunning breeding plumage ruffled by a light breeze. @robcrank68.bsky.social @alan678.bsky.social
For #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfJune26, I have to share another photo of my immature Great Blue Heron friend (I saw it on 3 separate occasions, that makes us friends, right?). If you look closely, I think its ear is visible!
I saw juvie California Scrub Jays this weekend! The parents' first nest was sadly raided by a squirrel a few months ago, so I was thrilled to see them with their 2 juvies.
A #Rotund Lesser Goldfinch in full borb mode for #BirdOfTheDay. She claims she just had a bath and was feeling a little chilly, but there were reports of a missing golf ball in the vicinty.
For #BirdOfTheDay #GreyDay, a fledgling Northern Mockingbird I saw a couple weeks ago at the LA Arboretum. I think this little one fledged recently, it stuck to its spot and its parents took turns feeding it there while the other parent stood guard nearby.
For #BirdOfTheDay #LittleBrownBirds, a Bewick's Wren perched on an aloe plant in the sun.
For #BirdOfTheDay #BirdsInTheirElement, an acrobatic Scaly-Breasted Munia showing off while eating breakfast. The look in his eye says he has some regrets.
I was able to get a photo of a Pin-Tailed Whydah mid-scold, when another bird had the audacity to interrupt his meal. I'm still amazed at the male breeding plumage. #birdoftheday #redbeaks
A couple juvie American Robins made my day! These guys were doing a great job looking for worms on their own. Their parents were nearby, but kept some distance to let the kids explore.
For #birdoftheday #outforawalk, a Mourning Dove parent and child taking a stroll together.
