Microsoft has intervened to stop Windows 11 users with LG monitors from being bombarded with annoying McAfee trial pop-ups. In response to complaints about the LG bloatware, Microsoft’s Windows chief, Pavan Davuluri, said that LG has agreed to immediately disable the McAfee pop-up from its LG Monitor App Installer, and pledged that Microsoft will “keep improving here with our ecosystem partners.”

This crackdown follows backlash about large pop-up ads for McAfee antivirus and LG’s own apps appearing on Windows 11 PCs after being connected to LG monitors. Upon connection, a Windows driver update was silently installing LG driver updates and the LG Monitor App Installer without explicit permission from the user — with reports about the auto-installing issue dating back to 2024.

It hits directly at the heart of Southern identity: 12 of the SEC’s 16 member schools sit within states currently targeting Black voters. To strike directly at these flagship institutions is to expose the raw mechanics of Southern capitalism — a system that, for centuries, has exploited Black labor for revenue while systematically dismantling Black civil and human rights.

I'm going to say this because there are some people who seem not to understand. What readers have is not the right to change the story of a work. What they have is the right to choose whether they will read it or not. If you don't like it, then just stop reading.

If you have the talent to create something more interesting than Bleach, then you should immediately become a mangaka. If it's really more interesting, you will definitely have more success than Bleach.

If you say you don't know how to draw, then work hard, become an editor, and give advice to mangaka. If you really have talent, you'll be welcome anywhere.

But if you have no talent, don't make an effort, and still complain about those who give their best - if you're the kind of person who only gets in the way of those working hard - then go hide somewhere, keep your eyes closed, your mouth shut, and live off the rain and the dirt.

I do think parents should absolutely have the right to choose not to vaccinate their kids.

I also think schools, sports teams, and other clubs or activities should absolutely have the right to exclude those who don’t want to participate in keeping these communities safe by getting vaccinated.

For good reason, most schools have detailed procedures about campus safety. In the current era, these seem to revolve around preventing mass shootings or randos from wandering the halls.

But the bigger threat is quite quickly going to emerge as the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.

In turn, this will result in very sick kids and teachers, and increased absenteeism, which means less funding for schools.

Teachers already have enough on their plate without having to play dodgeball with vaccine-preventable disease. They have a right to a safe workplace.

Costs will also ring up for substitute teaching, and the ripple effect of student absences will also be the absenteeism of their parents, who may need to stay home with them for weeks. In the best case scenario they have paid leave. This doesn’t apply to huge swathes of the U.S. population.

This in turn causes economic productivity to decline in some cases and people losing their jobs in others.

None of this is just or moral. The harms of undermining vaccines are many and varied. And it’s a direct threat to women in the workforce, who are still expected to be the ones to miss work.

I also think there should be a mechanism for filing lawsuits against parents whose decision not to vaccinate harms another person physically or financially.

Concerns about missed or belatedly applied postmarks. As explained in the Proposed
Rule, DMM Section 608.11 in no way signals a change in our postmarking procedures;
postmarks will continue to be applied to Single-Piece First Class Mail pieces, both letter-
shaped and flat-shaped, in the same manner and to the same extent as before. Of
course, mistakes occur in the normal course of postal operations; the Proposed Rule
explains as much, noting that occasional circumstances may arise where a legible
postmark is not applied (for instance when two mailpieces are stuck together as they run
through a cancelling machine, when the machine runs out of ink or smears when
applying postmarks, and so forth). For this reason, we have informed our customers who
choose to vote by mail that they can “ensure that a postmark is applied to [their] return
ballot by visiting a Postal Service retail [location] and requesting a postmark from a retail
associate when dropping off the ballot.” Kit 600, USPS Postmarking Guidelines (2024),
available at https://about.usps.com/kits/kit600/kit600_039.htm. That same guidance
would also address concerns about postmark dates, as the date on a manual (local)
postmark applied at retail location aligns with the date that the customer tendered the
return ballot for mailing. The present rulemaking, however, does not involve any
operational changes that would increase the frequency of missed or misapplied
postmarks; it is intended to explain the Postal Service’s operational use of the postmark
and to clarify what information postmarks can be reliably taken to convey.

Consider, for example, the cavern of the capital gains tax treatment at death for those with enormous estates. Let’s look at a hypothetical scenario using Elon Musk as a proxy. If he had originally purchased his Tesla stock with, say, $1 billion and held it until his death, and if it were then worth $500 billion, he would never pay the 24 percent federal capital gains tax on the $499 billion profit. Why? Because under the tax code, capital gains are not taxed at death. The tax code provision known as step-up in basis means that when Mr. Musk’s heirs get his stock, they are treated as if they purchased it for $500 billion. So no one pays taxes on the $499 billion capital gain. Ever.

Typically, Democrats insist on higher taxes, and Republicans insist on lower spending. But given the magnitude of our national debt as well as the proximity of the cliff, both are necessary. DOGE took a slash-and-burn approach to budget cutting and failed spectacularly. Europe demonstrates that exorbitant taxes without spending restraint crushes economic vitality and thus speeds how fast the cliff arrives.
On the spending-cut front, only entitlement reform would make a meaningful difference, since programs such as Social Security and Medicare represent the majority of government outlays. No one countenances cutting benefits for current or near retirees. But Social Security and Medicare benefits for future retirees should be means-tested — need-based, that is to say — and the starting age for entitlement payments should be linked to American life expectancy.

Our roughly 17 percent average tariff rate helps the revenue math. Doubling it — which seemed possible shortly after “Liberation Day” — would further burden lower- and middle-income families, and would have severe market consequences.
