Our first pilot with these stimuli shows we are again seeing more successful learning about a preexposed (i.e. familiar) stimulus than a non-preexposed (i.e. novel) stimulus.
They look weird, but are great stimuli for studying novelty and familiarity, and come with a load of metrics to balance the cues on.
Remembered, today, this classic bit of figure captioning from the original Thatcher illusion paper in 1980 by Thompson. Was this the peak of entertaining figure captioning?

Walking into work this morning with a general sense of reluctance and nausea. Today 2797 members of staff will receive letters informing them that they are at risk of redundancy. By my guess somewhere between 60 and 70% of academic staff.
This guy was strolling in the opposite direction as I walked along the lakeside on my way into work.
