Currently working my way through Through the Looking Glass an anti-trans attack document masquerading as a report on trans activism and the capture of children's literature and library services. The recommendations contained within are a dead giveaway for their censorship and banning aims

Stop publishing trans-activist literature – fiction as well as non-fiction – for all age groups catered to by children’s publishing, up to and including YA.

Children’s librarians must stop shelving trans-activist titles.

Librarians and booksellers must stop recommending trans-activist titles to parents and children

Instead of publishing trans-activist titles, children’s publishing should concentrate on putting out excellent stories with captivating characters

The CEOs of publishing houses, their imprint heads and publishing directors should be mandating that acquisitions lists are broadened out again to attract genuinely diverse and excellent submissions

Children’s publishing and the library services must move away from cancel culture by implementing robust HR practices

Educational publishing, libraries and schools must collaboratively observe statutory KCSIE and RSHE guidance, ensuring age-inappropriate and factually-incorrect, trans-activist books no longer find their way into children’s hands

Generally, Miller is not interested in slanging matches. He says that it would please the media if “I spent half an interview” talking about the embattled writer Neil Gaiman – accused in 2024 of sexual assault by multiple women, which Gaiman denies – “saying, ‘He’s not just a terrible writer, he’s a bad person.’ You know, something crazy like that, when he’s a lovely person, he’s a terrific writer.”

Apparently one of the things White South African refugees receive when arriving in the US is a Prager U published book called Lwazi's hard Lesson - part of the Around the World series. The story is about the history of South Africa and current events viewed through a glass, darkly.

Niche South African James Bond joke:

James Bond has been captured trying to sneak into South African villain Frikkie van der Murder’s secret lair.

Bond is confronted by van der Murder and his henchwoman Ivanna Nye who tell him his only chance of survival is winning a traditional South African cooking competition preparing meat over hot coals.

“You want me to barbecue?” Bond says in disbelief.

“No, no, no Mr Bond! We expect you to Braai!”

My first Terry Pratchett was Equal Rites - his third Discworld novel. I read it aged 13, it is this book that turned me into a feminist. I can still remember finishing the last page and saying to my Mom”Wow I hope he writes more books!” Soon after I read The Colour of Magic & The Light Fantastic
