I've combined the genus of Datura (and the flower Datura stramonium - devil's trumpet - to be specific) with Papaver somniferum (opium poppy) to create how I think Shroud's Kiss would function as a plant in the world of Thedas.

The mourning beetle is based on carrion beetles, so they eat dead flesh. They consume human flesh quicker than any other. The relationship between the flower and the beetle is due to both preferring corpse soil and using said corpses to thrive. The beetle enjoys the pollen, and like a bee, helps the flower to pollinate. This is why shroud's kiss grows on graves. It is also only native to the Necropolis and struggles to grow anywhere else.

I've taken what Emmrich says in game about the legend of this flower:

"They say it grows on lovers' graves and that one moves closer to the Fade simply by inhaling it's fragrance."

The pollen can induce a euphoric state if you inhale too much, and it is a common ingredient for expensive perfumes. People feel they are closer to the Fade because of the hallucinogenic properties of the plant. Too much can also put people into a hypnotic and suggestible state.

The flower's latex is toxic if ingested and can cause a rash when touched, but when prepared by a herbalist, it is a common remedy for sleeplessness, illness and pain. Though too much can bring on hallucinations, paranoia and death.
