Last month I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with @marymyatt.bsky.social Myatt for the Twinkl Educational Publishing 'Leading With' podcast to talk all things curriculum, including how leaders can improve their curriculum.
My latest "Understanding #mathshacks video" is now out. This video examines a lovely test for divisibility by 8. See the #mathstrick, and why it works, here: youtu.be/7jeMuXbo9do
A wonderful afternoon delivering my sessions at the @barnsleycollege #Maths FE meet today. People seem genuinely enthused at the potential impact of a few carefully chosen models and representations to support learners to make sense of mathematical structure.
Very excited to announce that I have had my first article, 'On the flipping of coins', and co-written with my former pupil & maths PhD candidate Ashleigh, published in the @amiemathematics.bsky.social's journal 'The Mathematical Gazette'. Read the article here: www.tandfonline.com/eprint/XWV7W...
Very pleased to have my blog educatingmrmattock.blogspot.com/2026/04/they... featured in this month's @edaptuk.bsky.social policy insights newsletter (bit.ly/4vhQFG2) as part of their 'bloggers in the spotlight' section - although I should point out I haven't been an Assistant Principal for a year.
Just four weeks to go until the first ever FE specific maths teachmeet event at Barnsley College. Hear from me, Emma Bell, @edsouthall.bsky.social and @mrmetacognition.bsky.social! The event is completely free, but you must register here: forms.office.com/Pages/Respon...
Can partnering with universities help close maths attainment gaps? It would appear so! I sat down with Cath Moore and Philip Chaffe from @meimaths.bsky.social and Matthew Lucas from @ucl.ac.uk in the latest Twinkl 'Leading With' podcast to discuss an exciting project they have been working on.
I am delighted to be delivering a session as part of Twinkl's Festival of #Tutoring @twinklbeyond.bsky.social! Sign up for mine (or one of the sessions over the four days) here: www.twinkl.co.uk/festival-of-.... Hope to see lots of #tutors there!
The third video in my series about understanding #mathshacks and #mathstricks is now out. This one features a lovely trick for approximating square roots of whole numbers that has beautiful connections. Watch the full video here: youtu.be/IlMeZFe-m0M
So happy that @teachertapp.bsky.social have featured my recent blog about the fallacy of comparing the ease with which kids learn popular song lyrics and the difficulty they have in learning things in the classroom. Read it for yourself here: educatingmrmattock.blogspot.com/2026/04/they...
@stephenfroggatt.bsky.social sharing the first equations (written with an equals sign) in history from Robert Recorded at #mathsconf40
Ready to kick off the day for #mathsconf40 @lasalleed.bsky.social
It's @lasalleed.bsky.social #mathsconf Friday! One of my favourite days of the year, getting to see plenty of old friends and colleagues for the social drinks before #mathsconf40. Not even this grey, drizzly British weather can dampen my spirits!
All the benefits of being a member of @amiemathematics.bsky.social - sign up now!
Such a wonderful message to start the day at the @amiemathematics.bsky.social members day from GH Hardy.
And here we are ready to kick off a lovely day at the @amiemathematics.bsky.social members day. A great buzz in the room and already bumped into so many great friends and familiar faces.
An early start on a miserable morning to get down to London for the first @amiemathematics.bsky.social members day. But that just means the day can only get better! Especially when I get to catch up with the lovely Emma Bell and @learningmaths.bsky.social (amongst many others I am sure).
I am delighted that I was able to discuss all things @dyscalculianetwork.bsky.social with one of its founders, Rob Jennings, for Twinkl's "Leading With" Podcast, now available to listen to on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. open.spotify.com/episode/2hVV... podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...
Very excited to be here at the @collegeofteaching.bsky.social annual lecture and Chartered Teacher graduation ceremony at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social.
Off to London today to see friends and colleagues at the @collegeofteaching.bsky.social Annual Lecture, especially my colleague Laura Brogan as she is awarded her Fellowship. Also very excited to listen to @teresacremin.bsky.social give this year's lecture about reading for pleasure.
Fantastic afternoon filming my latest episode of the Twinkl 'Leading With' podcast with Cath Moore and Philip Chaffe from MEI and Matthew Lucas from @ucl.ac.uk about their project focusing on engaging Y10 pupils with university whilst raising maths attainment. Cannot wait for this one to come out!
Missed my webinar with @educake.bsky.social last week looking at tackling the trickiest concepts in secondary maths? What were you doing with your time??? Fortunately for you, you can catch up on everything we discussed on Educake's YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehDBzcr-sok
Managed to collect all four of this year's #REdBrum badges before the end of the first break! #GottaCatchEmAll
Great early message from @carlhendrick.substack.com at #REdBrum
A miserable start to this Saturday morning. But that means that things can only get better for my exciting day speaking and listening at #REdBrum!
Very excited to receive my copy of 'Maths Revolution' by the wonderful @tessmaths.bsky.social today. Was lucky enough to have seen a copy of this to review - a must read for anyone working with struggling or reluctant GCSE learners.
Not one but two chances to listen to me talk about aspects of teaching mathematics next month - on two consecutive days! Click the links in the first comment to sign up for either one or both of the sessions. What better way to start your week with a double-dose of talking about maths?!
Absolutely fantastic day at @mathshorizons.bsky.social talking with people about teaching problem solving in maths. Big thanks to @drhelendrury.bsky.social, @edsouthall.bsky.social (and the other members of the team) for hosting such a wonderful get together and discussion.
Early start this morning for my trip to London to take part in the @mathshorizons.bsky.social session looking at their new problem solving framework. Looking forward to catching up with many of my friends and colleagues in maths education and getting into a fascinating area of debate.
