The “UK’s major air polluters” are the 3m households that burn solid fuel. Much more than the 43m road vehicles. Further expensive action on “transport” will make minimal difference (apart from banning diesel). Action on unnecessary solid fuel burning would see vast improvements immediately.

Disappointing this article (like most) fails to mention the largest source of air pollution in the UK-domestic solid fuel burning.Traffic is a very different issue – the air pollution is a tiny amount from a huge number of people (43m+), wood burning is huge pollution from a tiny minority. (<3m)

Brilliant to see genuinely environmentally friendly saunas here! Too often recently they use highly polluting wood burning saunas, which have blighted many cities & coastal towns with unacceptable air pollution. eg Skuna (also in Canary Wharf). Disgusting levels of pollution that undermine ULEZ

What is the point of “green” heating if you don’t care about emissions? These 2m people quoted stove users cause much more emissions than all 23 m gas boilers even if they use recommended "Ready to Burn." Here it is 6 months later! Unlikely they’d raise it for a neighbour though. Avg Ecodesign Carbon Monoxide emissions are 34kg/yr compared to 0.719kg/yr for avg gas boiler. Hourly emissions likely much worse as gas boilers used a lot more than stoves. Its not all going to stay outside at that distance

Yes, unfortunately it is – usually because of HETAS incompetence. Sometimes it only affects the polluter, who probably claim they “love the smell.” Saw this backing on to a local park a couple of years ago. (HETAS installed) Shows yet again HETAS installers are unable to assess risk.

This Facebook post shows the arrogant entitlement of SIA lobbyists, expecting to be able to warp data ("challenging the 38% issue") to suit their agenda. A tiny percentage of people causing so much pollution, much of it emitted close to neighbour's windows yet all they think about are their profits!

Have you looked at NAEI? It may be & of course it shouldn't be burning wood, but at least its not next to homes like “Ecodesign” stoves! Drax emissions are tiny in comparison to domestic solid fuel burning emissions, most of which is from wood. Please don't use this to defend poisoning neighbours.

Most people we've spoke to who have installed “Ecodesign” stoves in the last few years believed the stove industry’s misleading marketing as they’ve been told by their stove seller that there are no emissions or assume “low emissions” means similar to gas boilers. #cleanairnight

Its very clear that the levels go up when the "Ecodesign" stoves are lit - usually after 4pm. Daytime levels usually around 1µg/m³, unless someone lights a stove.

Dangerously high levels of PM2.5 (267µg/m³) & PM0.3 (particle count of 25k) when #fireworks used nearby (>300m away). Low cost monitors don’t measure UFPs (PM0.1) but likely this was extremely high too. This was just a few fireworks in neighbours garden, not an organised display.

Modelling methodology - "These data were filtered to exclude both flats and property built after 1964 (see Figure 11)." This assumption does not apply in 2025 as the stove industry say having no chimney is not a barrier to installing a "modern" stove" www.charnwood.com/news/how-to-...
