Poe cuts in. “What about Ben?”

Confused, Rey looks at him. “What?”

“What?” Kaydel adds on.

“What?”

(The third one is Ben, who has barely glanced up from his laptop.)

Poe jabs a thumb at him; it’s covered in ancho chili and lime juice. “Take Ben.” He gives his friend a winning smile. “Ben needs a vacation, you need a big, strong man to be your fake boyfriend, Yavin is gorgeous this time of year: everyone wins.”

Rey’s nose wrinkles. “You can’t just volunteer someone to be a fake boyfriend, Poe.”

Rey jolts awake, sitting up in a flash.

“Sleeping beauty wakes. I was about to get you up in five minutes.”

Snapping her head to the side, she spies Ben in the mirror—he’s in the bathroom, doing something to his hair.

Blinking dazedly, she looks around. They’re already in their hotel room?

“When did we…?” She gives Ben’s reflection a confused look.

Ben makes a silent ah. “You fell asleep in the van, so I carried you.”

Rey’s eyes go wide. “You carried—”

“Yes. You sleep like the dead, Rey.”

here's my first teaser for #reylofakeit fic, rey's coworkers are... interesting.

This time, instead of pulling away, those soft lips part. His tongue—soft, wet—flicks over her skin, like Ben’s just getting a taste; Rey isn’t able to stop the little gasp this time.

She’s not sure how, but she thinks she feels him smile—the curve of his mouth, the slant of his lips.

Like he’s testing the theory, Ben opens his mouth a little wider, sucks a little harder. Rey’s knees give a tremor that she wishes she could will out of existence.

Instead, her hand balls into a fist at her side. “I—”

Ben doesn’t pull away; his hand braces against her back, holding her firm. No, his hand says, Stay.

Yavin is gorgeous as the shuttle van trundles across the country towards the resort—even if Rey feels a little too fuzzy-headed with lack of sleep to appreciate the country’s full beauty.

Poe had sternly told Rey to enjoy the rainforest and take pictures of birds and make sure to eat the patacones and—

Rey blows out a breath as she stares out the window.

“You okay, sweetheart?”

Oh, and another thing: three other people from work are in the shuttle Rey and Ben are on. The charade has begun early. Rey turns her head to give Ben A Look and nods.

“Yeah. Sleepy.” It occurs to her that she should… reciprocate? Act concerned about him, too? Since he’s definitely her boyfriend and all. “You?”

One side of Ben’s mouth lifts. “I’m good. Excited to be here with you.”

Unable to find words, Rey nods.

He studies her eyes for a long beat, like he’s searching for something—and nods, seemingly to himself, satisfied with whatever it is he’s found.

“Okay.” He shuffles a little closer, starting to lean down, pausing just above her neck. “You can tell me to stop at any time.”

Can he see how fast her heart is beating? This close to her skin, where her artery is pumping adrenaline through her veins? Can he tell?

“Don’t be afraid.” He drops a kiss on her skin and she startles. “I feel it, too.”

A muscle under his left eye tics. “No.” His gaze flicks down—to her mouth? Her chin?—before coming back to meet her gaze. “I can give you a hickey.”

The laugh that comes out of Rey is more of a squawk: incredulity baked into the short-sharp burst of it. “What?”

Ben’s mouth falls into a flat line. “I can give you a hickey.” He gestures to her with his chin. “Just above whatever you’re wearing tonight.”

i will never abide by the #reylosss six sentences rule bc i am lawless. here's part of the opening chapter for my #reylofakeit fic! rey wants a promotion; her workplace worries that she's a flight risk. you see where it's going right? :))))

“Sounds like some sexist bullshit,” Ben pipes up from where he’s frowning down at some spreadsheet.

Rey huffs. “It is sexist bullshit.”

“Peanut, can’t you just… I don’t know—” Finn pauses, clearly flailing for some miraculous solution she hasn’t considered yet. “Get a mortgage?”

“I could if they would give me this fucking promotion that I deserve,” she snaps back. Chastened, Finn grimaces and sits back in his chair.

From her upside-down perch on the couch, Kaydel waves a hand. “I have a question.”

Rey looks at her friend. “Yes.”

“Why would a boyfriend—” She points at Rey, her brows lifting. “Or girlfriend.”

Rey nods. “Yes. Or girlfriend.” She cuts that next suggestion off before Kaydel warms up to it. “We can’t say you’re my girlfriend: I took you to the holiday party last year and you promptly started flirting with Jannah.”

Kaydel’s face turns comically innocent. “Maybe Jannah and I broke up!”

“Jannah has about six pictures of you two at her desk.”

“Maybe I’m just her friend!”

“You two are kissing in one of them!”

“Maybe we’re just friends who kiss!”
