Thank you to @ravenbooks.bsky.social for this recommendation- a fab and eerie tale of 18th-century Oxfordshire, a heatwave, five strange sisters, and so much more. Loved it.
I started this marvellous novel a while ago, got interrupted, and restarted it last week. Finished it this morning on the back step. Will be thinking about Lydia, Joyce, Pan and, yes, Betty for a long time. Loved your surprising way with words and images @regretteruane.bsky.social
Watching Peter Gabriel gig in Athens in 1987- c/o Sky Arts- out of the marvellous!
So the weather is wild but these hellebores are dancing … living their best lives.
Fair Deal, Una McKevitt’s new play on the Peacock stage @abbeytheatre.bsky.social, is dark, funny and outrageous- 3 of my favourite things. Fab acting, writing and directing. #speirghorm
The road west- Clifden-bound with a pitstop in Oughterard. Connemara. 💕
If only ours was a house share. Meet Fred and Ginger, feudal fluffy overlords. We’re just staff.
Oh losing our fluffy overlords is tough - Dec 27 last year, I found out my girl Ginger had a tumour, having gone to the vet thinking she had a bug and just needed an antibiotic. 3 days later, she was gone.
A poignant honour to host a tribute to Arena’s Seán Rocks last Sun with Kathleen MacMahon, Kevin Barry @winterpapers.bsky.social - Paula Meehan & Colm Mac Con Iomaire. Exquisite words & music - & an audience of friends & family. At Dublin Book Festival. ❤️
Spending a little time with Derek Mahon this morning- what a poet- and looking forward to a celebration of him this evening with Paul Muldoon, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Stephen Rea, Claire Keegan, John Banville - Gallery Press event at Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin.
Very pleased I'll be talking to Christine Dwyer Hickey and David Park at this @dublinbookfest.bsky.social event on Sat 8 Nov! Love CDH, as do many, and DP should be much better known than he is -
OH first cooked chicken for Fred 12 years ago. There’s no going back!!
I’m off to Clifden Arts Festival in Connemara to talk to Donal Ryan on Friday 19th Sept at 3pm. It will be lively!
Well Reader, I loved it. Need to re-read regularly. Astonishing writing, hard to describe, which is as it should be.
Tonight at 7, on Arena @rteradio1.bsky.social we are broadcasting a terrific public interview Sean Rocks did with Claire Keegan in Oct 2023.
So it’s taken a while to start this (!) but thanks to @iammilliam.bsky.social and @backlisted.bsky.social for the nudge.
Yesterday’s secondhand book swag. Well into The Statement by Brian Moore already!
I’m off to @shhomeplace.bsky.social Bellaghy, co. Derry on 26 July to talk to Paul Lynch about this Booker-prizewinner and more!
