Well the cats and I had a fun (not fun) morning today! (we are safe and the house is okay) the little boy across the street got quite a show.
A lot of people at my new job are BYU grads. One of my new coworkers just introduced me to another with, "guess what she photographed last year?"
I finally finished this raccoon portrait I drew in @secondnaturemb.bsky.social's class earlier this year! I decided to finish it off with some loose watercolor so the detailed colored pencil raccoon would remain the focal point. Also I didn't want to draw a tree.
Thinking about storytelling through photos this morning. Social media (and many wildlife photogs) loves a tight crop, but photo 1 doesn't tell you anything. Where is the bear? Why is it running? Is it happy? Excited? Photo 2 tells us a story of competing for survival in the wild.
My coach and I completely rebuilt my double loop from the ground up. My technique from childhood was old school and made it a lot harder. I've been working hard on this for two months and finally started landing them this week. 🥹 Here's one from today!
I wish someone had told me when I was a kid that you can just draw things and it doesn't matter if they are good as long as you have fun. IDK where I got the idea that you have to be good at your hobbies
I wasn't serious, but I actually AM putting this on ebird as a picture of a Harlequin Duck. 🪶

Sea lion in ink. I just think it's cute. Done from a reference photo I took from the ferry to Santa Cruz Island.
I did this one on a plane from one of my photos of 1199 (aka Solo (aka Miracle)), a young grizzly in Grand Teton National Park. It's so much fun to sketch on a plane!
I'm proud of myself for creating a composition instead of painting exactly the scene in front of me for these wildflowers from a weekend backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains.
This Violet-green Swallow is my most detailed sketch in this book and the one I'm proudest of as a painting. I will probably scan this one and hang a print on my wall. It's based on a photo by @bluebarronphoto.bsky.social.
I finished a sketchbook for the first time yesterday!! My favorites from the book: a thread. First, this spring cub at Brooks Falls in Katmai that climbed a dead tree to stay safe while its mother fished. I'm especially proud of the waterfall, where I focused on negative space.
One of my favorite photos I took in Katmai last week is this one of a protective mama bear and her three spring cubs walking on the beach early in the morning. #mammals 🐻
