whoever at epic designed this genius way of viewing a page on the fab store from the unreal launcher. i mean. ooooh. i just want to shake them by the- well, let's start with wanting to shake them vigorously and go from there. we went from dogfooding to dogshitting, didn't we? details in alt text.

Hark! at the fact that clicking on a page doesn't take you to an asset page, but instead pops up a narrow modal on the right where you can imbue next to no information without scrolling down all the way because it's condensed all the information into a narrow modal! See those three symbols on the top right? Well, just to save you time, the right two do the same fucking thing! Yes, that's right, close and collapse have no functional difference! Because why the fuck would they. No misclicking for you! No, because all OUR buttons have exactly the same purpose!

And don't you worry, game devs! Because if you thought it was a pain having TWO buttons doing exactly the same thing, here's what happens when you click into a screenshot! That's right, now you get NO buttons? How do you get out? Great question? Apparently you just click fucking randomly until it closes or something, because there's no good reason for it to work, and work consistently, right? We don't need consistency in UX design. No, what we need is to throw crumbs to all the people who used the old store FOR A FUCKING DECADE and who asked very nicely for it to go back to how it was an be usable in the launcher. Which, to be fair, they did. But in what could only be described as an Epic fucking power move, they took it upon themselves to make it one quarter as functional as it used to be!

okay here's some gamedev. a non-post-process shader in unreal engine that can highlight only the visible part of clipped objects. uses custom stencils and scene depth comparisons to do it. normally you'd do this in post-process because when objects are rendered you don't know where they are.

i lost a third of my desk to an experiment.

a little void cat sat in a big pink fluffy bed, on the desk of a game developer. there's the edge of a monitor, a stream deck, a keyboard on the desk, with a colourful desk mat and some audio equipment in the background, as well as two keyboards on a rack behind the cat.

here's some slop made copy i got in an email from @gog.com. if you're in marketing, you should be writing copy. not having a bot do it. for a platform with negligible market share, you need to put effort into communicating with customers. not have a bot do it. 30% cut for this GPT ass shit.

every time i see this in my sidebar i unfollow the streamer. doesn't matter who it is. paying for twitch turbo to remove ads means that i should get no ads. i like being able to support streamers with turbo. but if i get ads anyway. then i may as well just cancel turbo and use adblock, right?
