Went down to the mall, saw the history, talked to friends, and drenched in sweat in only about 45 minutes 😵‍💫. It’s such a bummer so many things are getting cancelled after all the planning, but I’m glad they are. This heat is no joke.

• Provide down payment assistance for full-time regular county employees to purchase a home in Albemarle County in the form of a $20,000 loan secured with a lien, forgivable after 5 years of continuous employment with the county, forgiven at the rate of 20% per year
• $2,500 grant for one-time rental assistance for county employees that rent & are paying more than 50% household income on rent
• 5 year pilot, assess data and impact throughout
• Establish a loan committee to review applications

On May 20, Jack Jouett District Sally Duncan said she wanted the county to study creation of a a county program to hold landlords accountable for property maintenance.
"The General Assembly passed legislation in 2004 that allows municipalities to have a rental inspection program," Duncan said. "There's about 18 other municipalities in Virginia that have this program already."

According to Duncan and state code, localities designate rental inspection districts based on certain criteria. A locality can either hire its own inspectors or contract out to a third-party.

"The big thing is that it gets rid of retaliation by landlords," Duncan said. "We're the county, we're going to inspect our rental properties, make sure that there's not, mold or rodents or infestations and that people have safe, clean places to live."

I do not live in New York - I did visit once it was quite big - and what this shows us is what someone can do if they are actually interested in doing things.

Last night I went to a community meeting about a proposed development, and I’ll wait for the the actual application if it ever comes before us, but I thought it might be helpful to explain one thing that I think about when it comes to feedback like this.

Preaching to the choir here, but my request for the park improvements was a bike repair station; when I did an e-bike ride last year, @mtgillikin.bsky.social and I had a conversation about how convenient it would be if every school and park had drinking fountains and bike repair kits.

SEE WHAT THE PARK IMPROVEMENTS WILL PROBABLY LOOK LIKE! WE'RE GETTING BATHROOMS WITH A PAVILION AND DRINKING FOUNTAIN, A PLAYGROUND AREA, NATURE PLAY AREA, A WOODLAND GARDEN, ADA PARKING SPACES, AND IMPROVED TRAILS!
A REMINDER THAT THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE LARGELY STRUCTURED AROUND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE 600 KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 10 WHO LIVE WITHIN A HALF-MILE WALK OF THE PARK!
SO WE'RE KEEPING THE QUIET NATURAL FEEL OF MOST OF THE PARK BUT ADDING SPACE FOR OUR YOUNGEST NEIGHBORS TO ENJOY!

I went to the coolest art show at the Boys and Girls Club tonight. They had several projects modeled on or inspired by artists and costume designers, and it was so well done!!

Mr. Colbert's observation was part of wide-ranging interview last week in his office above the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway.
Appearing both relaxed (he was barefoot) but also a bit restless (he occasionally fidgeted with an old-school football helmet), he reflected on the coming end of "The Late Show" on May 21, as well as his two-decade career as a late-night host. He also spoke about how his show had become so topical, President Trump and what he might do next.
He could be, as he put it, "long-winded" at times. Indeed. For one question, he gave an answer that lasted, with limited interruption, for 18 minutes.

I stopped over at IX for a little bit to see the first Filipino Cultural Festival and it was so cool. I can’t believe how packed it was. The music and performances were great. I wish I could have hung out all afternoon!
