it's a library research day for two audio commentaries I'm recording this month, for two very different films. I love it when research takes me to such different topics and places in the world to understand.
Two extraordinary recent books I've read by Canadians: THE ANNUAL MIGRATION OF CLOUDS @premeemohamed.com a haunting coming-of-age novella in a dark post-apocalypse world; LAYAWAY CHILD by @csuther.bsky.social , tender and moving stories of women and children who navigate immigration to Canada.
what a joy and an honour to be a guest at Flying Broom Internation Women's Film Festival / Uçan Süpürge Uluslararasi Kadin Filmeri Festivali

with alt text. The short version: @mark-carney.bsky.social is proving yet again that he is Harper 2.0, selling out Canadians for his corporate buddies.
It was a great pleasure to be asked by @jlalibs.com & @filmmovement.bsky.social to write about ANIMALE, Emma Benestan's terrific French revenge western fairy tale. Now available for order! vinegarsyndrome.com/collections/...
I splurged a little for premium economy on French Bee, never flown the airline before but I do appreciate the leg room and glass of champagne pre-takeoff
Two terrific recent reads for me: Grey Dog, by Elliot Gish, and The Atrocities, by @jeremycshipp.bsky.social Terrific gothic stories about women teachers sent to strange places, dealing with forces supernatural and all too human as they struggle to keep themselves together. Highly recommended.
Very happy to receive mine & @simonlaperriere.bsky.social 's contributors copy of “EXORCISMO: Defying a Dictator and Raising Hell in Post Franco Spain” Blu-ray set from @severinfilms.bsky.social ! Order today: severinfilms.com/en-ca/produc...
I put Holmes's window perch cushion in the laundry and he is baffled l.
today I begin my big project of 2026: turning this binder of 16 months of research, into a book on Eloy de la Iglesia for the Hidden Horror Histories imprint. I've got a reasonable timeline to keep a steady pace of outline and writing. I expect many mochas will be consumed.
this weekend's #poetry book from @upfromsumdirt.bsky.social
my partner is extremely happy with his xmas gift of @josie.zone 's book
I finally found somewhere to buy the saturday globe and mail so I can get it for the annual gigantic crossword
You just died. The 6th picture in your phone gallery is what killed you.
You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you? You know what? If I was not part of the hive mind, I think she would try to rescue me, as we would have a great time drinking vodka and watching Golden Girls.
my Sunday #poetry book for this week: ox lost, snow deep by @aliceburdick.bsky.social
A themed short story anthology is always a joy, and 'As the Earth Dreams' edited by teresempierre.bsky.social joins Thyme Travellers as two of my favourite reads of this year. Favourites are 'The Hole in the Middle of the Word', 'A Fair Assessment' and 'Peak Day'.
Two recent discs: THE COLUMNIST, a dark comedy horror from Film Movement for which I wrote an essay; ALL THE MOONS, a Basque gothic vampire tale from Shudder, with an audio commentary from me & the fabulous Rebecca Wynne-Walsh. Both available at @vinsyn.bsky.social vinegarsyndrome.com
Of course women don't like the Cybertruck. Women only want one thing, and it's Barbarella's Alpha 7 spaceship with shag carpet interior.
climate change means it's October 5th in Montréal and I'm sitting on my balcony in a short-sleeved t-shirt, light skirt and flip-flops, and I'm still a little warm. A convertible just drove by with the top down. At least I have a good book of poetry to read.
I'm delighted to have a poem in the new edition of @pinholepoetry.bsky.social alongside many other amazing contributors. The issue in online and free to read. pinholepoetry.ca/issue-4-3/
I've had the pleasure to write two essays for @umbrellaent.bsky.social recently, for their releases of INTACTO (The Gambler’s Crutch: Good and Bad Luck in Intacto) and CYPHER (Am I Not Your Spy Girl: The Femme Fatale in Cypher). Both discs (and many more!) available to order. shop.umbrellaent.com.au
