The #HopwoodTriangle has had a stay of execution while the correct process is followed. As Cllr Place identifies voices on both sides of the argument need to be heard - please make your views known to the email address below.
Really disappointing to see things like this being said in the run up to the #MayoralElection - there is no “eight lane” scheme in #Rochdale or anywhere else for that matter. The current system only works for drivers, in a town where 1:3 households don’t have a car. We need #TransportChoice
This is massively disappointing about the #HopwoodTriangle - it’s not even had a week to bed in yet. Once again Rochdale Council demonstrating that everyone who isn’t a driver is an afterthought? @walkridegm.org.uk
This is Edenfield Road - it’s a typical main road in #Rochdale, with a speed limit of 30 mph. There is plenty of room for a protected cycle lane without reducing car lanes or parking, and narrowing carriageway would reduce traffic speeds and make it safer for everyone #SaferStreets
Some clarity on the #HopwoodTriangle - the scheme measures will come in between now and next Friday with the final step being the closure of this junction. It’s important that anyone living in the scheme gives feedback - it will make walking to Hopwood primary much safer @walkridegm.org.uk
Just a reminder that today #Rochdale Council will close the junction between Manchester Road and Middleton Road as part of the #HopwoodTriangle scheme. Residents have been asking for this for over 20 years, as Middleton Rd is a narrow residential street, not a cut-through to the M62.
Today should mark the start of the #HopwoodTriangle scheme - removing through traffic from Middleton Road. We hope this is a success and is made permanent, as it should enable more walking to Hopwood Primary and Newhouse School @solveschoolrun.bsky.social
Excellent cartoon from @davewalker.bsky.social - #ActiveTravel is excellent value for money, makes people healthier and gives children independence. Study after study has shown Dutch children to be the happiest in Europe as safe walking and cycling gives them freedom.
Good to see Heidi Alexander setting an example of healthy travel out on her bike. Making sure our streets are safe enough to encourage walking and cycling makes people healthier, and any walking or cycling is better than none #EverydayActivity
Phase 2 of the #Castleton #Beeline already being used! @walkrideGM.org.uk
Last week, we wrote to Cllr Williams as the cabinet member for Highways on Rochdale Council, in response to a Facebook post he made in which he said he would cancel the A671 cycle lane. Sadly, we haven't had a response from him, but share the email we sent here #ActiveTravel
Next phase of the #Castleton beeline due to start today at the junctions of Roch Valley Way and Silk Street - once complete these will give a continuous route from Castleton station all the way to Rochdale town hall
Now the #LocalElection2026 is behind us, please can Rochdale Council go ahead with the #HopwoodTriangle scheme? Middleton Road is a narrow residential street and is unsuitable for through traffic - people living there have been asking for a solution for 20 years @walkridegm.org.uk
Phase 2 of the #Rochdale #Beeline looking very good! Let's hope it can form the spine of an #ActiveTravel network in a borough where 1:3 households don't have a car.
How to get around by @davewalker.bsky.social for @cyclinguk.bsky.social
Unleaded £1.55/litre? Many car journeys are short enough to walk or cycle, and these remain free (and healthy) #ActiveTravel #PetrolPrices
The Herald letters page missing the point that cycling makes up approximately 2% of journeys but only gets 0.5% of highways funding. An end to disproportionate funding would be welcome, and likely transformative #ActiveTravel
With oil prices rising fast, we call upon our politicians to help the cost of living by accelerating the roll out of #ActiveTravel infrastructure, and making our streets less hostile for walking and cycling by creating #ActiveNeighbourhoods and addressing #PavementParking. @walkridegm.org.uk
Worried about #PetrolPrices rising? Many car journeys are short enough to walk or cycle, and these remain free (and healthy) #ActiveTravel @walkridegm.org.uk
#Heywood Civic Centre looking good. These solid feeling bike stands are a nice touch, and there are Sheffield stands round the far side too.
The green areas on this map were meant to be #ActiveNeighbourhoods and fill the gaps between the main road #BeeLine routes. But almost all have been abandoned, after huge amounts of work, in the face of political indifference and sometimes antisocial behaviour #MadeToMove
Seven years into #MadeToMove very little of this vision has been delivered. This will go down as a huge missed opportunity to make travel cheaper and improve health and air quality in #GreaterManchester. We call upon the city’s politicians to restore the vision #BeeNetwork @walkridegm.org.uk
Here’s a #QuickWin for @rochdalecouncil.bsky.social - put a modal filter on Middleton Rd. This would reduce traffic going to and from the motorway along a narrow residential street near a primary school @walkridegm.org.uk @triciaayr.bsky.social
Well done West Yorks Police for sharing #OpSnap stats in an easy to understand format. It would be great to see GMP Traffic do likewise. #ThirdPartyVideoReporting
Looks like the lessons from Manchester’s #BeeBikes aren’t being learned - hire schemes really need a robust TfL-style docking system.
