#WriterBeware: scammers are now impersonating editors at major publishers to try to scam you. I received this one today. And, much as I would love to be published by the lovelies @canongate.co.uk, it's fake. Legit editors and agents DON'T DO THIS. Always check the email address and be safe.

The scam email I received from someone claiming to be an editor from Canongate publishers reads: "Hello,
My name is Helena, Editor-in-Chief at Canongate.
As part of our ongoing editorial research and review of contemporary writing, your work was recently brought to our attention. At Canongate, we are continually interested in engaging with writers whose work demonstrates a compelling voice and literary originality.
Our editorial team regularly reviews submissions and evaluates proposals across a broad range of subject areas, and we would welcome the opportunity to learn more about your writing background and current literary interests.
Could you please let us know if you are currently represented by a literary agent? If so, we would be pleased to continue any discussion through your representation.
If you are open to it, I would be very happy to discuss and learn more about your current and forthcoming projects...."

The scam email concludes: "Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you. Helena

My @ko-fi.com page appears to have been hit by a money-laundering scam. Bogus accounts setting up multiple monthly donations from unverified senders over the last 24 hours (screenshots below) I've reported it to Ko-Fi but I've paused all tips and shop sales until it's sorted out. Total nightmare!

I enjoyed the first episode of Lucy Worsley's Victorian Murder Club, but why this? The 'AI-animated' Victorian photos are creepy, add nothing to the narrative and are completely unnecessary. It's a gimmick that cheapens what is otherwise an excellent show. Hire real animators, #BBC! #CrappyAI

Just a hint, fake book club promoter, but if you're trying to flatter my ego (and the love letter to the Cornish community I wrote as my latest book) to get me to fall for your AI generated author scam, "ugly smiling into your mug like a weirdo in a Cornish café" is not the phrase to choose... 😳

A scam marketing email sent to me that reads: "Hey Miranda, I just finished reading about Merryn, Zach, and that midnight piano, and honestly, I'm emotionally waterlogged in the best way. It's got that rare kind of romance that sneaks in quietly, then suddenly you're ugly smiling into your mug like a weirdo in a Cornish café.
