Official home of the dork who decided to use my Urban Planning Master's Degree for the primary purpose of "make an alternate-history N Scale NJ Transit layout." All opinions are mine (and you can't have them!), and they’re all wrong or your money back!
Just imagine: They could have made Transilien moderately better instead of building this.
I think technically Magenta is somehow considered a separate station but it's all part of a semi-connected complex of stations? There's a whole separate joke here about a comparison to the NYC Subway and someone else should make it because I'm tired.
Here's another crappy lazy American station where stupid Anglosphere planners disregarded every single international practice under the sun in order to appease their own laziness. This time with a before/after.
Look at these other lazy assholes and their partial stub terminal and good god this station has something like 20 tracks if you can believe it? And it's been expanded multiple times, how dare these lazy American planners demolish half a city block for a wasteful stub terminal!
look at this stupid stub terminal can you believe how bad and lazy Anglosphere planners are?? Potted Plants!
12ML my beloved... Sorry, distractions aside check this link and take a look at trains 7327 and 7331. web.archive.org/web/20150713...
Most of the time no, but let's say hypothetically you committed to this rail fleet where the undercarriage is like a foot above the railhead and a pit track was the only way to inspect the undercarriage.
dude if we had fully electrified down to Bay Head that would've been a huge deal. The two biggest problems with Long Branch Yard: 1) Not enough tracks 2) They're short 3) No inspection pit. Wow if only there was some other yard on the Coast Line. If only...
@thelirrtoday.com hey I was just combing through this "Service Optimization Study" that FRA just released and was wondering how does LIRR permanently being limited to 24 peak tph to make more room for NJT trains and commuter run-thru's (probably to the Hell Gate Line) make you feel?
For some weird and inexplicable reason I am drawn to this like a moth to a light. Janky equipment manipulation stuff is unironically my passion.
"We're all trying to find the guy that made MTA hate us" says guy who forcibly wrested control over a multi-billion dollar project from MTA and has done everything in his power to sideline not just MTA but also the other partner agencies.
Besides the depressing hilarity of the Italian PM having to tell Trump to fuck off, it also points to the global right wing project is coming around to the idea that Trump isn't just dead-weight he's a pair of concrete shoes.
The conceit here is that we are supposed to have any concern whatsoever for anything involving the “Abundance Agenda”. After a year and change of hype in weird policy dork circles, 9 in 10 Americans don’t even know what the Abundance Movement is.
Also whereas the Madison platform canopy is like "generic-ish canopy" Bloomfield looks like...this. Seriously who likes this. Who goes up to this station and says "wow, this looks really good and it needs to be preserved". It's just this video but in real life. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfm0...
Bracket signals are neat and if anyone says one bad word about them I will fight them. Also I love just how many lights we just don't need (and are plated over accordingly) at Boyd. @prrsignal.bsky.social
Meanwhile look what ended up on X854 this morning headed in to run shuttle service for the stadium event...
The nature of urban mass transit is you cannot make a big national map. Like suppose you "only" zoom out to the northeast quarter of the US, here's what the NYC Subway looks like. At the scale of national politics, individual cities/lines/etc. vanish both figuratively and to an extent literally.
Well that's fucking ominous. Anyways I'm sure removing bike and bus lanes when gas is at $4 a gallon (and probably about to go higher) is a great idea. No notes.
They're futures markets. The actual reality facing consumers at the end of the whole global supply chain is gas prices and those have behaved pretty much predictably. Strait of Hormuz is ~25% of global oil traffic, gas prices are up on the order of 25%.
Sure, it doesn't matter that you have reports on ~20 disparate topics and the largest success is "we were sort of present for a design change to IBX" but you're all having fun.
There are six people listed on ETA's "About Us" page and Alon Levy is one of them, though oddly their blog has criticized ETA on several occasions (often severely). Seems like a really odd relationship. Alon thinks ETA is ineffectual and people in ETA feel really uncomfortable with Levy's blog.
