Calls of 11 Whimbrels over Wells next the Sea today in two groups apparently debating which way to go - eventually headed west towards Holkham. More or less invisible I’m afraid. Tiny blobs lower screen. @norfolknats.bsky.social @wildernorfolk.bsky.social @bull-of-the-bog.bsky.social
Now this takes some doing. At least the 2nd bit of such ‘flight radar’ artwork. A new canvas for ‘skywriting’. @ajpendleton.bsky.social @davidyelland.bsky.social
Is your home too hot today? If you can, grow creepers up the outside, esp on south facing walls. Good for nature. Good for insulation and shade.
GB energy generation at 1150 today. Solar is biggest chunk of and overall mostly renewables. Good news.
The Dell at Holkham NNR Wells Norfolk today: green, lots of flowers, still damp. Looking great. Butterflies. Testament to water storage in the sand dunes. Hopefully will soon be recharged. @jakefiennes.bsky.social @themarshtit.bsky.social @wildernorfolk.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
Has @andyburnham.bsky.social not heard of Denis Healey's law: "In a hole, first stop digging"? Thanks to digging up oil, coal, gas & burning it, wildfire smoke envelops cities like Manch', @metoffice reports 2,700 excess deaths, ecosystems collapsing. So lets dig for more? @geofflean.bsky.social
The rich are getting richer. No surprise there. In this case in the USA. Inherited wealth - 70% flows to the 10% of richest Americans. Just smidgen to the poorest 50%. Same in many countries. Wealth not income is the great economic divide, and unfairly determines life chances and opportunities.
Bizarre even by Farage standards. If you don't want to be associated with something, don't put it in people's minds ... Fanhitter? @davidyelland.bsky.social @https://leftfootforward.org/2026/07/nigel-farage-claims-he-is-being-treated-like-a-war-criminal-by-the-media-over-undeclared-5-million-gift
Hey @octopus.energy I’m a customer +an EV and not convinced by your proposed ‘simple’ charge cap. It’s not simple and relies on us keeping an ev plugged in at all times & not just 2330 - 0530 as before (cheap time). We can’t do that as our charger is in a shared access. Did u think this thru? /1
So these are Harebell Carpenter Bees - a great name. Thanks to @vannabartlett.bsky.social and @norfolknats.bsky.social - if you have Nettle Leaved Bellflowers in your garden/area then look out for them. Great plant not hard to grow. UK native wildflower. @plantlifeuk.bsky.social
A shame that @djdebgrant.bsky.social sitting in for @laurenlaverne.bsky.social on @bbc6music.bsky.social today took upon herself to announce that we don’t ‘need’ wasps (& jellyfish). We don’t ‘need’ human DJs any longer - after all AI could do the job cheaper. But … @buglife31.bsky.social
UK National Grid electricity generation close to 90% renewables right now. grid.iamkate.com @crisortunity.bsky.social
Two nice ‘cottage garden’ aliens allowed in our garden. Feverfew and Hollyhock. @themarshtit.bsky.social
Missed World Refrigeration Day 26 June (h/t refindustry.com)and @unep ‘s cooling resilience session at London Climate Week? prob heard about @NHS MRI Scanners stopped by heat. Now our local Co-op, Waitrose & Sainsbury refrigerators failed. #UKunready @geofflean.bsky.social @crisortunity.bsky.social
No campaigner should use generative AI - let alone generative AI images. Campaigns are about contested reality. without verifiable truth they are rudderless. Gen AI has no connection with truth.
Moth ID advice anyone? @norfolknats.bsky.social @themarshtit.bsky.social - just the underside unfortunately. In our house in Wells tonight.
Elon loses Trillionaire status as shares sink www.theguardian.com/business/liv... - oh no - will he need to have a Car Boot sale? @crisortunity.bsky.social @tonyjuniper.bsky.social @ajpendleton.bsky.social
If humans disappeared in N Norfolk a lot of it might soon look like this - yellow roads of Biting Stonecrop, for a bit. This recently was in Wells at Maryland (outside abandoned workshops, Maryland) - a whole tarmac ecosystem.
A minute of Swifts calling tonight at high tide. A few do flash across the view but mostly you can just hear them. Wells next the Sea. @themarshtit.bsky.social @adammarkham.bsky.social @tonyjuniper.bsky.social @wildernorfolk.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
Martin Down NNR @naturalengland.bsky.social - an amazing amount of Dropwort. And a massive tapestry of other flowers especially around the old rifle ranges and ancient earthworks. Huge numbers of singing Skylarks.
Now then. Is this Small Cudweed ? It is definitely small. Leaves long and pointy up stem. On the street in Wells. @themarshtit.bsky.social @jo-the-botanist.bsky.social
The whole area looks quite tropical as the plants are so “architectural”. Should be great once the mullein is all in flower. Probably lots of interesting plants if you had a proper look. Just on a dog walk.
Mullein and blue-bottles - vipers bugloss - at rewilded arable in Nar Valley West Acre @themarshtit.bsky.social @jo-the-botanist.bsky.social

www.theguardian.com/games/2026/j... this is interesting. Gamers avoiding AI. @ajpendleton.bsky.social
No ducks in our sink but we do have a lot of these - emerged from pots of subsoil. But can’t rule out one or another old ‘wildflower mix’. Otherwise seed bank. Night scented catchfly/ clammy cockle, dogs and I think?
