Reading The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances by @glenndixon.bsky.social , and it is absolutely wrecking me. My emotional reaction is at The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry levels. The highlighted passage exactly reflects how I felt when I held my dad's ashes. Not willing to let go.

Still, when Kate stood up and took the urn to him, he clutched at it and pulled it in close to his chest, and for the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon, he sat with it, the urn tucked up on his lap with one arm cupped around it. He felt its weight, but he wasn’t really thinking about it. He wasn’t really thinking of anything at all. He wanted just to stay there, seated, to not move, to not venture beyond this one singular moment.

@drewgum.bsky.social 's book Saltburn is one of the most satisfying books I've read in a while. I didn't want it to end, but at the same time, I don't feel like I'm left wanting. Saltburn is about the absurd, but it's also about acceptance, I think. About loving who you are. Read this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In "Saltburn," a book that on its surface is all about absurdity, @drewgum.bsky.social keeps breaking my heart.

There were even seal pups, tethered, available for purchase, their faces upturned and crying for their mothers.

"I told you," said Charles. "People as strange as you exist in the world."

In the distance, out at sea, the seals churned, joyous for the spring tide, tossing their heads both in and out of the waves. And it was beautiful, but sad, because, as with all beautiful things, they hold within their hearts a notion of their own transience.

And then, of course, there was the Foetus Museum and the Aquarium jut along the front. He could visit them under his own steam, although the aquarium didn't have any *actual* fish any more - not since *the incident*. But still, it was worth a visit. It was amazing what you could do without fish these days.

"Thank you," she muttered to Alban, sniffling. "This isn't your problem."
"No," Alban replied. "It's really not." They shifted the baby on their hip. "You all created your own problems. But you think we're the problem. Always us and them. Blockheads and excoms. People who do the normal thing, people who do something wrong. Nothing ever changes."

He just realised that everyone needs care, not just people who can afford a subscription. He says that all he could see were things being stripped from people, from the system, so that they would have to pay for them privately. Like, get rid of vaccines and make people buy them instead. If they can't pay, they get sick.Then they have to pay for the medical care instead.
