Is the LINING OF HIS JACKET the Vice Presidential seal? Good grief. @dieworkwear.bsky.social do you have an opinion about this sort of behaviour??

Is's everyone's favourite [REDACTED] JD Vance waving. He's wearing a blue suit and a blue tie. His jacket has a Stars 'n' Stripes lapel pin and the lining appears to be a repeat pattern of the Vice Presidential seal.

This seems extremely vulgar to me but what do I know.

I love agapanthus. This is the best year ever for mine. They’re in pots and I’ve had the Navy Blues for maybe… eight or ten years. The Black Jack is the perfect colour, that one’s only a couple of years old so I hope will have more flowers next year. Bonus unnamed pelargoniums. #gardensky

An interpretation board about Ellen Terry’s daughter Edith who ‘lived in a ménage à trois (household of three) with her two partners, Clare ‘Tony’ Atwood and Christopher St John (formerly Christabel Marshall).’ (NB this seems to be an aka rather than deadnaming.)

An interpretation board about a ‘cycling suit’ that belonged to Clare ‘Tony’ Atwood. I didn’t take a pic but it’s a grey tweed trouser suit that they think was converted from a riding habit.

An interpretation board about some costumes that belonged to Vera ‘Jacko’ Holmes who was, amongst other things, Emmeline Pankhurst’s chauffeur; an ambulance driver in WWI who then ran an orphanage in Serbia with her g/f; and an actress famous for taking male roles. ‘The typically masculine styles are another example of the progressive ways of dressing that were common at Smallhythe Place.’

Saw a frog today. In the tea room of a castle obvs. There was a table of old people who, in the five minutes we were there, discussed taxes, the BBC Licence Fee (‘and all the programmes are so left wing nowadays!’) new cars - too big (I agree with this one) and then started on immigration. 😬

When I was 16 someone asked me if I liked 'gothic books' (to go with my hair etc.) and I was like, what do you mean? Frankenstein? Dracula? but he meant Gormenghast. Which I had actually read, when I was about 14, because the covers appealed. I did really enjoy it but have never re-read them.

The 1985 Methuen edition of Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. It has an illustration of a mysterious turret, and broken lion statue, and a cracked and crumbling pillar

We had a nice Egg Lunch from this vintage Elizabeth David. I assume she wasn’t dealing with fresh spinach tbh; tinned would be easier, plus Ollie ‘couldn’t be arsed’ with ‘piping anything’ but it was delicious and we sat in the garden.

Look at this great picture of Hockney sitting for Lucian Freud.

Photo by David Dawson (2002). Hockney's seated in the middle of the frame with the portrait (just his head) to the left. Freud enters through a door on the right. The picture took 120 hours because Lucian Freud was hard work. (My interpretation.) Hockney's reciprocal pic of Freud took three hours because F could dish it out but not take it when it came to sitting for protraits.

As a teenager I had postcards of these Hockney works on my wall. I remember standing in front of Mr & Mrs Clark and Percy for ages, on my first trip to the Tate with my dad when I was 12. A Bigger Splash is one of those paintings you've seen so often it's almost a shock to see it in real life.

We Two Boys Together Clinging by David Hockney (1961)

A scrappy scruffy picture in mostly red and blue with two naively painted figures embracing. The words (from the Whitman poem of the same name) are part of the work.

Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy by David Hockney (1971)

(A portrait of Celia Birtwell and Ossie Clark and their white cat (this cat was not actually Percy, it's Blanche. Hockney though Percy fitted better in the title.) Celia is wearing a navy and red frock designed by Ossie. She's standing and he's sitting (with the cat on his lap) in front of louvred doors that open onto a sunny balcony.

A very flat and neat image of a one storey building with glass doors looking onto a pool. It's a hot California day. There are two palm trees in the background. Someone has just dived into the pool, providing the titular splash. No people are visible.

Went for a walk, saw the heron in the park. Someone walked past and it flew off, I managed to take a very shit photo of it flying. #shitnaturephotography is my passion

The heron in flight. I’ve caught it in front of a coned off bench (the pond floods, I think that’s why the bench is coned off. The park is basically where the river is/used to be, it’s a wet sort of place.)

A large, lumpy standing stone in the foreground with three or more behind it and a couple of others visible also. It is a baking hot September day. The grass is scorched and brown. This little bit of alignment is tucked in between some houses on the Quiberon Peninsula. The stones cross the road and head for the sea, but these are the most visible.

Ollie leans against the same stone nine years later. I'm standing on the opposite side to take the pic so the stone leans to the left. Ol's wearing pale shorts and a dark floral shirt and a straw hat. It's not such a sunny day but you can see the lichen on the stone much better, and the clearning carpeted with pine needles. A second, fallen stone, can be seen to the right.
