look at all these lovely books hanging out on the new fiction hardcover display together 😍 🍜🦄🐉 @johnchu.bsky.social @wiswell.bsky.social
sunday book (& fabric) haul! w/ thanks to @erikgrove.com for recs 😁 now, where to start?
oh boy, someone dropped an absolute motherlode of beads at the ReCreative in Greenwood... makes me wish I had the slightest ability to work with these but seriously @hernibsen.bsky.social @peripateticmeg.bsky.social look at all the pretties 😍
okay book industry friends, do I know anyone who knows anyone on the PHYSICAL book construction side of the industry On Here? because I just keep having questions. so many questions. for example: what on earth is going on with this perfect binding. who are NYRB using and what are they DOING.
I made a thing! it is very smol! it has peacocks on the inside!! more importantly however, @marissalingen.bsky.social made a thing, ie, the actual words wot went inside. they are delightful & important & full of bashing fascism in the wotsits with swordfuls of skepticism. also there's a musical!
chased the sunset all the way home from #readercon - or at least halfway across the continent. surreally beautiful timing of a flight! safe on the ground in Seattle after an invigorating & thought-provoking first experience of the con. I may well return...
landed! the mountain was being very photogenic on the way out of Seattle, too 😂🗻💙
we continue to trundle contentedly around the tarmac, as we have been doing lo these last forty minutes or so. @alaskaairlines.bsky.social I don't mean to tell you how to do your job or anything but usually planes work better when they are, you know. airborne.
about to take my third (& then fourth) transit train because SEA-TAC is playing gate tag with me, but, #readercon I am on my way!!
dilemma: which Delightful Light Nonfiction paperback will make my rowmates on the flight to Boston respect and fear me enough to let me read in peace, but NOT weird out the cabin crew so much that they might confiscate my snacks 🤔
anyway so does it count as murder if the person you kill gets gruesomely resurrected again w/in minutes? ...if they consent 🗡️🩸🤔? book two is going great why are you looking at me like that here have a placeholder cover for book one. could a procrastinating author do THAT. i think not. czech mate!
hanging out, sewing chapbooks, getting hype for #readercon next weekend :D who am I gonna see there? any fun panels to hit up?
possibly my only bone to pick with Dungeon Crawler Carl was that I picked it up this morning, and by 4pm (with errands!!) I'd gulped down the whole thing 😂 this book knows exactly what it's doing, where it's going, & how to have fun while getting there. now to pick what format to get the rest in...
so okay. how to explain @shelleyparkerchan.bsky.social's SWBtS. grab a handful of genderweird disasters in a war zone, give 'em Trauma + the worst decision-making skills imaginable, & strap 'em to rocket-boots labeled 'Destiny.' doomed gay yearning! ghosts! siege warfare! maiming!! delightful >:D
my go-to (that keeps well in the fridge & is ready to eat cold with a fork straight out the Tupperware):
so there's this YouTuber comedian who has this bit where she finds stupidly expensive designer bustier tops with about enough space for a lychee in each cup and then cackles at them in F cup. and. well. my fancy new reading journal from Archer & Olive just arrived. it has space for 32 books.
tiny books? tiny books. 😍 got a proper little factory line going this weekend 😂 chop chop! monsieur le guillotine waits for no book!
but on the theme of 'finally getting around to it after ten million years of longing to'... 👀👀👀
i am highly skilled at going on errands which do not involve entering bookshops or purchasing new books in any way 😐
my kind of guy... chased by the French army, actively suffering from cholera, living in a pit, surrounded by injured and dying soldiers,,, & Will Not Stop Writing To His Friends About Trees 😂🌳👌🏻
so fun story. you know how in the US queer families need to adopt their own kids to reliably cross borders with them, right? (now you do.) if you're not married, you gotta get fingerprinted by the FBI as part of that. wanna see the privacy statement on what they can do with those fingerprints? ✌️
(the sentence in question, for any as wish to play along from the gallery seats:)
three! @nataliezed.bsky.social's Villain which has me feeling so many things I'm reeling, but also the most nuanced & intoxicating portrayal of power differentials I've ever ever read. Deprogramming! Complex systems analysis! Deeply gross superpowers! Unavoidable yet tragic schisms! A masterpiece 😍
one makes a lot of choices in one's life and sometimes those choices result in staring down a TBR that looks a little bit like this: (look,,, book two wants what book two wants. you think I have any kind of say in that? I'm not steering the ship, I'm out back on the jetski screaming 😭😭)
okay so today's book I'm super excited for - the Hench sequel, Villain - I strip my hardcovers to read, right, 'cause that's civilized, but like. HarperCollins come over here I wanna have a little chat what are you DOING this is not how SPINES work look! Penguin Classic can show you!
& two! this time it's @djangowexler.bsky.social's isekai romp, featuring my new favorite potty-mouth trauma bomb of an MC, Davi, who sets a new bar for Disaster Bisexuals 👌🏻 come for the quest satire, stay for Evil Bureaucracy Simulator 5000? no lie I yelled when she added middle management 😂
one down! post-apocalyptic Gothic in the finest attic wife tradition, w/ the most exquisitely grotesque lesbian sex since Hannibal S3, I'm in love w/ the mycelial worldbuilding (& all the horrid women >:D) definitely recommend if you liked Leech's body horror & Annihilation's eco-weird vibe! 👰🏻♀️🍄🗡️
